Gov. Rendell Names Jennifer Engle of Lancaster County
One of the 'Best 50 Women in Business' for 2009
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 11, 2009
Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced Pennsylvania's "Best 50 Women in Business,"calling them terrific examples of Pennsylvania's brightest business minds and role models for anyone who aspires to succeed. "Pennsylvania and the communities in which these award winners work are better because of them, and I encourage Pennsylvania's young people to follow their lead."
Lancaster County native Jennifer Engle, owner and principal of jke marketing & communications, was among those honored for her dedication to business growth, professional and personal accomplishments, community involvement, and advocacy for women in business.
Engle has more than 25 years experience in marketing management and communications. Since 1988 she has led jke marketing and communications, a sole proprietorship specializing in helping small to mid-size for- and non-profit organizations establish, turn around and/or grow operations through strategic marketing and communications. Her clients include Armstrong World Industries, Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff, Harvest Community Bank, PennDOT, Lancaster General Hospital, Goodwill Industries, Harvest Community Bank, Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council, and numerous wineries and tourism attractions.
Engle also temporarily “loans” herself to organizations to help lead growth opportunities in-house. For example, she took on a multi-year stint as executive director of the PA Wine Association to create a new infrastructure and brand for the growing industry.
This year, in addition to this honor, Jenny was named to the League of Women Voters of PA’s Anna Estes Strawbridge Honor Roll and the Multiple Sclerosis Leadership Class. She also is an international communications competition judge, a past national president of the Association for Women in Communications, a member of the PA Commission for Women’s Honor Roll, a graduate of Leadership America, and has served on the boards of numerous national, state and local professional and civic organizations. She earned an MPA from Penn State University and a BS from Millersville University, is a Master Planner, and currently is learning to speak Mandarin Chinese.
The contest, in its 14th year, is coordinated by the Department of Community and Economic Development in cooperation with five regional Pennsylvania business journals. An independent panel of judges from state government and businesses selected this year's award winners from more than 700 entries.
Honorees will be invited to the Governor’s residence for personal greetings and congratulations from Governor and Mrs. Rendell prior to formal evening ceremonies at the Harrisburg Hilton Hotel. They also will be featured in business journals throughout the state.
